SATURDAY - MARCH 27, 2010

What is this event?

Hockey players and fans unite from around the Midwest to help fight a disease that kills over 40,000 women every year...Breast Cancer. This event began in 2001 and raises up to $28,000 per year. All proceeds are kept locally and donated to the St. Luke's Regional Breast Center. The funds support a Cancer Shootout Breast Cancer Research Fund, and improved patient care at St. Luke's in Duluth, MN.

The Cancer Shootout is a unique round-robin tournament where individual hockey players sign up and are "drafted" and "traded" onto teams at the Friday night Draft Party. There are four men's teams which each play three games on Saturday. There is also a two-team Women's Tournament. This year we are combining the women's Beginner Team and Advanced Team, but giving the women two games to play!

Mark your calendars now for our 10th Anniversary Event coming up on Saturday, March 27th, 2010... at the NEW Duluth Heritage Sports Center! The pre-event Draft Night festivities on Friday night will take place at Ridgeview Country Club in Duluth, and the after-party will go down at Aces on First at the conclusion of the tournament. The men's teams filled up fast in 2009 and even had a waiting list. Hopefully in 2010 we'll have just as many women hittin' the ice! Registration is filling up, so get in touch with us to save your spot on the ice!

Families and children are encouraged to attend Saturday's event and there is plenty of indoor viewing space. There will be food and beverages available all day, face painting, balloons, a Silent Auction, and an Open Ice skating time for kids to get on the ice with "Champ" the UMD Bulldog and the Cancer Shootout players!

NEW for 2010 - This year will mark the 10th Anniversary of the Cancer Shootout! It's hard to believe that we've been getting together to fight Breast Cancer for ten years already. Over the course of that time, together we've raised over $120,000 to help find a cure for Breast Cancer and improve patient care here in the Northland. Join us this year for the best event yet as we've got lots of fun surprises up our sleeves to help celebrate!

What make this event unique?
A Great Cause

This event was primarily started by a group of MEN who cared about the many women in their lives affected by this disease. It continues on today, in an atmosphere unlike any other hockey tournament - where families spend the day together, and everyone unites out of compassion in hopes of someday finding a cure for Breast Cancer.
