CANCER SHOOTOUTComes to a CloseAfter ten long years of working and playing together to raise money for a wonderful cause, the Cancer Shootout Committee decided that the 10th Anniversary Event of 2010 should be the final chapter in a very rewarding story. While there wasn't a hockey tournament in 2011, we did host one final event, a "Wrap Party" in late March. As in years past, all proceeds from the Cancer Shootout Wrap Party benefitted the Cancer Shootout Breast Cancer Research Fund through St. Luke’s Foundation. This Fund is used in support of local breast cancer research through clinical trials at St. Luke’s in partnership with bench research at UMD. Breast Cancer has not gone away, and the need for fund-raising and increased awareness does not end with the Cancer Shootout event. We encourage everyone to seek out those ways in which you can continue to make a difference in the search for a cure, as I know we will. We will continue to raise funds for our Cancer Shootout Breast Cancer Research Fund through St. Luke’s Foundation. Money raised from our Wrap Party will continue to grow this local resource, and you will have an opportunity to help in the fight against Breast Cancer for years to come. Until a cure is found, we still have work to do. The Cancer Shootout Committee would like to thank everyone who has been a part of this event over the past ten years... the Players, the Volunteers, and the Sponsors, and the Supporters. Together we have raised nearly $150,000 for the fight against Breast Cancer. It is definitely something we should all be proud of. We’ve touched lives, and we’ve made a difference. And we’ve had a lot of fun along the way. A sincere and heartfelt “thank you” goes out to every person who had a part in this event over the years. We look forward to continuing to work with you in various ways in the fight against Breast Cancer. CIRCLE OF LIGHT AWARD - In October 2010, the Cancer Shootout was the recipient of the St. Luke's Foundation "Circle of Light" Award. THANK YOU to all the players, volunteers, and sponsors who have made this possible!!! This award belongs to all of you.
